Q:  Should I wait until my insurance company comes out before I choose a contractor?

A:  Choosing your contractor before your insurance adjuster does an inspection is a good idea for multiple reasons.  First, your contractor ensures that all damage to the property is included in your claim the first time which makes it a quicker and easier process so a re-inspection is not needed.  Second, in a lot of cases your contractor and adjuster will negotiate right on the premises as to expedite payment of your claim to get work started quicker and with less hassle to you as a homeowner.  Third,  unfortunately adjusters do make mistakes as humans, having a second knowledgable person at the adjustment reduces the chances that timely and costly errors are not made.

Q:  What is depreciation?

A:  When you file a claim your insurance company will break the payment up into two checks.  The first check is what your property is currently worth, the second check is the difference in price between the current value and the cost of repair.  The second check is called depreciation.  This gives your insurance company leverage over you as a homeowner to ensure the work gets done and leverage for you over your contractor to ensure they do a job up to your standards.  E.G.  You have a roof 20 year shingle on your roof that is 10 years old.  If it costs $10,000 to replace your roof they will hold back 50% depreciation because your roof has lasted 50% of it's lifetime so your insurance company will withhold $5,000 (the depreciation) until the work is completed.

Q:  What type of damage can occur if I do not replace my roof now?

A:  Depending on the type of damage your roof has incurred many things could happen.  In most cases failure to repair damage will lead to leaks which can cause thousands of dollars of interior water damage to your home and possible destroy possessions that are irreplaceable.  In some cases if gas vents are damaged and airflow is restricted this could cause a build up of toxic exhaust fumes that are unable to escape through the roof vents.  Why take a risk with your most valuable asset or your families health?

Q:  How do I know if I need a new roof?

A:  To the untrained eye it can be hard to tell if your roof is in need of replacement.  The only way to be sure is to call for a qualified contractor to come and do an inspection.

Q:  How much does a new roof cost?

A:  The price of a new roof is dependent upon many different factors.  Size, material, location, design, and various other aspects go into the final cost of your roof.  This is why Redi Roofing works closely with insurance companies, our suppliers, and our crews to ensure that the best quality product is installed on your home with the least amount of out of pocket cost to you as the homeowner.

Q:  What are the typical causes of roof problems?
A:  Hail, high wind speeds, inproper ventilation, and age are the four main causes of roof problems.

Q:  How much ventilation does my roof need?
A:  This depends on the layout of your house and the type of roof system that you have in place.  Redi Roofing does a ventilation audit on all the homes we work on to ensure that proper ventilation is achieved to help your roof last.  Improper ventilation can dramatically shorten the lifespan of a roof so it is critical that the contractor you choose does it right.
